J.T. Farnhams, as seen on Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives, is a seasonal, rustic seafood joint that is not to be missed! Though they’re known for their golden fried clams and “the best seafood chowder”, there’s plenty of options to choose from. If you’re lucky, you might find an open table outside overlooking the Essex Salt Marsh.

Woodman’s is said to be the inventor of the first fried clam, and they’ve been using the same recipe for over 100 years. Start with their award winning clam chowder followed by a fried dinner plate…and if you’re having trouble deciding, try their ½ and ½ combo deals. You can even get New England Clambakes and clam frying kits shipped directly to you! Bonus tip: Since their famous recipe has used cornmeal instead of flour from the start, most of their menu is naturally gluten-free!
